1. Initial consultation & site survey
The initial consultation is the most important part of the design process. I will visit do a site visit and discuss with clients their ideas and requirements. After site inspection, I will discuss what’s achievable and not achievable due to site limitation, based on clients’ budget. Following initial consultation, I will go over design fee, based on project scope. Unlike other designers, I DO NOT charge a fee for initial consultation. There is no flat rate on the design fee, since some projects are easier to design and implement than others. Only after site inspection will I be able to give a design fee quote.
2. Design stage & detailed planting map
In this phase, I will present one round of initial design concepts, followed by maximum of two rounds of revisions.
Initial design concepts will show proposed layouts of new garden or interior.
Clients will have up to two rounds of opportunities to clarify, refine, and narrow down their ideas and requirements.
Please keep in mind that since I do not charge an initial consultation fee, a percentage of total design fee will be required after each round of presentation, before proceeding to next round of revision.
After final design is approved, details of hardscape areas and features with materials to be used, themes and styles of planting and structural planting including trees and hedges will be indicated on final drawings, to be delivered to clients.
Client will take these final drawings to solicit bids from contractors of their choosing.
3. Additional drawings & services
After design is approved, upon client’s request, cross sections, elevations, or 3D sketches can be produced to help the client and contractor understand the selected design.
I also offer the service of purchasing plant materials for client, at prices less than what retail nurseries offer.
4. Monitoring of the projects, if needed
Upon client’s request, I will help client select appropriate contractor if client has multiple contractor bids. Also, upon request I will help client communicate with the contractor to make sure installation / building process is in sync with design vision.
